Which process to follow?
The most widely employed process that organizations employ when using a low-code platform to build applications is the agile methodology. This is the obvious choice for many organizations because the agile methodology outlines a method for flexibility managing application development projects in a way that naturally fits a platform inherently designed to enable developers to develop code quickly.
But even after an organization decides to adopt an agile methodology there are still myriad other decisions that need to be made. For example, when it comes to project management, should the organization go with PRINCE II or AgilePM? Although AgilePM generally fits better with an agile development methodology, depending on the culture of the organization that choice may not always be the best option. Because there is always a clear relationship between processes and organizational structure, decisions concerning approaches to project management should not be considered lightly.
The testing process represents another critical decision that needs to be made. Should the organization, for example, rely on T-Map or an agile test method? The method of testing needs to not just align with the complexity of the applications, potential risks, and technical difficulty, but in some instance also the way the organization has historically tested applications.
Organizations also need to make sure management and support processes are put in place to ensure that any errors in an application are detected and corrected as quickly as possible. Does an organization opt for the ITIL approach with clear agreements about service and resolution times, or for the more flexible Agile approach? ITIL can be a better choice if the organization already has an IT department organized around those principles. A more agile approach, however, may be required as part of a DevOps process that prioritizes which errors need to be fixed first.
Whatever the path selected, it is crucial organizations align processes throughout the entire application development and delivery lifecycle chain in a way that not only matches the rate at which application code is developed, but also most easily implemented.
